Wellness in the Schools (WITS) Gala 2017

About the event: Wellness in the Schools (WITS) is a national non-profit that inspires healthy eating and fitness for kids in public schools. Through public-private partnerships, we work with schools to provide healthy, scratch-cooked meals, active recess periods, and fitness and nutrition education. Trained culinary graduates partner with cafeteria staff to feed kids real food, and fitness coaches encourage schools to let kids play. An annual favorite, the WITS Gala is in its 10th year. The event features tastings from over 30 of NYC’s top restaurants, chefs, and beverage providers; live entertainment; and auction.

About the event: The 10th annual Taste of the Upper West Side is making an exciting return this spring to bring one of the city’s most exciting culinary events to the UWS on Friday, May 19th and Saturday, May 20th, 2017. Featuring two nights of celebration, this fabulous event will delight guests with fantastic food from world-renowned chefs of the Upper West Side. Presented by the Columbus Avenue Business Improvement District (“BID”), a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit, all net proceeds will be donated to the local community for neighborhood improvement and beautification.

City Harvest Summer in the City

About the event: Join us for our 15th annual Summer in the City event at IAC HQ (555 West 18th Street). Summer in the City is the culinary experience that kicks off the summer featuring some of New York City’s hottest chefs and mixologists! Last year, the event raised nearly $350,000, enough to help feed 450,000 children and their families. Highlights from the event were a DJ set by Questlove, an outdoor VIP patio featuring oysters by Greenpoint Fish & Lobster Co., and a MINI convertible photo booth. Restaurants included some of the city’s best – Butcher Bar, Emmy Squared, High Street on Hudson and Khe-Yo. The Platinum Premium Bar offered Casa Dragones tequila, Macallan Rare Cask scotch and Veuve Clicquot’s La Grande Dame champagne.

About the event: A Spectacular Celebration of Global Cuisines, Music & More. The International Food and Wine Festival will play host to seminars, tasting events and sumptuous dinners overseen by top Disney Chefs as well as renowned guest Chefs. “What’s Cookin’ With…” features some of the country’s top celebrity chefs will begin the morning with a delightful plated brunch and sparkling wine toast. The fun starts with a demo, and the chefs answer questions from the audience and share secrets of their successes.

Pig Island

About the event: The Eighth Annual Pig Island will return this fall. Featuring 25+ chefs creating the freshest and funkiest dishes from locally sourced hogs. Previous years’ dishes included glazed pork belly and peach on cold ramen, wood smoked pork pizza, pig head tacos, roasted pork sliders, crispy pig ear lettuce wraps and bacon banana bread with caramelized bacon. Keeping the focus on local, Pig Island also features a selection of New York State craft beer from Sixpoint and others, wine, artisan spirits and ciders all included in one general admission price. Pig Island benefits local farms, celebrates both award-winning and up-and-coming chefs, and great outdoor grilling.

The funds raised by A Second Helping of Life enable SHARE to provide free support services and education programs to thousands of women and their families. James Beard Taste of America New Orleans
